My Take
John Cale is, to me, rock's quiet revolutionary. As a founding member of the Velvet Underground, his Welsh classical training and droning viola gave the band its uniquely unsettling edge, the ingredient that made them immortal rather than merely influential. Yet he never coasted on that legacy: Paris 1919 and decades of restless, avant-garde solo work show an artist who always chose experiment over comfort. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and an OBE feel like overdue acknowledgment of someone who shaped far more than he sold. Six decades in and still active, he commands my deepest respect.
