My Take

John Layfield fascinates me because he played one of wrestling's great villains while being, by all accounts, a sharp businessman away from the cameras. The bullying-tycoon character worked precisely because Layfield understood money and power well enough to satirize them convincingly. Moving from college football to a 195-centimeter wrestling heavyweight to financial commentary and entrepreneurship shows a range the wrestling business rarely rewards but always needs. I have a soft spot for performers who grasp that being hated on purpose is harder than being loved, and Layfield committed to it for years. That commitment is, to me, the mark of a true professional.
