My Take
Few actors can make you lean in just by lowering their voice the way John Malkovich does. There's this dry, almost amused menace to him, like he knows something you don't and isn't in any hurry to share it. I love that he came up through Steppenwolf in Chicago, because you can feel that stage discipline in everything he does, even when he's playing a total weirdo. He turned a fictionalized version of himself into a whole movie premise with Being John Malkovich, which is the kind of self-aware swing only he could pull off. Whether he's the chilling villain in In the Line of Fire or seducing in Dangerous Liaisons, he never quite plays it straight, and that mischief is exactly why I keep watching.
