My Take
My take on Johnny Depp is that he is Hollywood's great refusal. Handed a matinee-idol face, he spent his career hiding it under scissors, scars, gold teeth and kohl, betting that strangeness would outlast beauty — and for a long stretch he was right, with box office in the billions to prove it. I find his instincts as an actor genuinely thrilling even when his choices have been messy. The Kentucky kid who turned eccentricity into a global brand remains, to me, one of the most watchable performers alive: you never quite know which Depp will show up, and that uncertainty is exactly the point.
