Jonathan Ashworth

What draws me to Jonathan Ashworth is how he embodies the brutal arithmetic of political life. A Durham-educated Labour and Co-op figure, he held Leicester South from 2011 until losing the seat in 2024. Plenty of people would have faded after that defeat, but he pivoted to lead the Labour Together thinktank, choosing influence over self-pity. I find that adaptability genuinely impressive. Politics rewards resilience as much as eloquence, and his willingness to keep deploying his mind in a new arena, rather than nursing a grievance, tells me more about him than any victory could.
