My Take
Height gets the first reaction — 208 cm does that — but Josh Hawkinson's story is really about relocation. He left Washington State as the school's all-time leader in rebounds and double-doubles, which already marks him as a relentless, unglamorous worker: rebounds are the stat you earn by showing up on every possession. What interests me more is what came next. He turned professional in Japan in 2017 and, rather than treating the B.League as a stopover between American contracts, he stayed long enough to take Japanese citizenship in 2023 and now plays for the club, renamed Tokyo Sun Rockers. Plenty of imported players pass through a foreign league; very few change which country's column they belong in. That decision reframes his whole career. He isn't a visiting big man padding numbers abroad — he chose a basketball culture, learned it, and became part of its national picture. I find that far more compelling than any highlight reel.
