Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui fascinates me as a man whose second act eclipsed his first. A goalkeeper who logged 149 La Liga matches for clubs as storied as Real Madrid and Barcelona, he has become better known as a manager, now steering Qatar's national team. I find that arc compelling, because keepers see the whole pitch and often make thoughtful coaches. His path has had turbulence, yet he keeps landing meaningful jobs across the game. To me he represents the reinvention so many former players attempt but few sustain, and I respect his quiet persistence in staying relevant at football's top tier.
