Kara Tointon

Tointon strikes me as a quietly durable talent, the kind British television produces and the rest of us underrate. Anchoring EastEnders as Dawn Swann is one thing, but winning Strictly Come Dancing and then carrying Maria in a live broadcast of The Sound of Music shows a performer who actually enjoys the high-wire risk of going live. I respect that she has built a career on craft rather than tabloid noise, accumulating range one role at a time. Born in 1983, she still has plenty of runway, and I suspect her most interesting work is ahead of her.
