My Take

I will admit my bias: I rate Karen Elson even higher as a musician than the fashion world rates her as a model, and that is saying something given her iconic runway status. Plenty of models attempt music; almost none write folk-tinged songs with this much shadow and craft. Coming from working-class Oldham to the top of an industry built on being looked at, then deliberately choosing a quieter art form where she controls the narrative — that takes real nerve. Her voice has a haunted, vintage quality that suits her better than any campaign. To me she is proof that reinvention, done honestly, is the most glamorous move of all.
