Katy B sits in a sweet spot I deeply admire: a Goldsmiths-trained musician who chose the sweat and bass of UK club culture over polite pop. With On a Mission she delivered two top-five hits while writing and producing her own material, which earns my respect immediately. But the song that gets me is Crying for No Reason, where she turns the inexplicable ache of a late night into something universal.
