My Take
Kazuo Fujita is one of those baseball guys whose behind-the-scenes career tells its own story. That kind of quiet career has its own dignity. Ehime is citrus country, Seto Inland Sea breezes, not exactly the talent pipeline people talk about, which means anyone who made it into professional baseball from there, even behind the scenes, had to grind for it on merit alone. At 171cm he wasn't imposing physically, so I picture a guy who leaned hard on reading the game, staying disciplined, doing the unglamorous reps. Nine years catching for Nippon Life, then bullpen catcher and coach for the BayStars, feels less like mystery and more like someone who just kept his head down and worked. I respect that kind of career even if — maybe especially because — it never needed a big spotlight to matter.
