My Take
What I admire about Kelsea Ballerini is how she carried her Tennessee roots into the mainstream without sanding off the edges. Coming up near Nashville and staying local through Lipscomb University, she broke through in the 2010s and racked up five Grammy nominations and a string of rising-star honors. Plenty of country acts chase crossover pop and lose their voice; she manages the wider appeal while still writing her own material and playing guitar. To me that combination of craft and groundedness is rare, and it's why I think her best songwriting may still be ahead of her.
