Koichi Fukuda

Koichi Fukuda's story sticks with me because of the geography of it. An Osaka-born musician co-founding an American industrial metal band like Static-X, then weaving through guitar, programming, and keyboards, is a quietly remarkable feat of crossing cultural and technical borders. What I respect most is that he rejoined the band three separate times. That isn't restlessness to me, it's devotion. He clearly couldn't stay away from the sound he helped create. As someone partial to multi-instrumentalists, I see Fukuda as the kind of craftsman whose fingerprints are all over a band's identity, even when he isn't the frontman.
