My Take

Laura San Giacomo is, to me, a master of the role that holds a film together from the side. Carnegie Mellon trained and unmistakable thanks to that smoky, knowing voice, she made an indelible mark in Sex, Lies, and Videotape and stole scenes as Kit in Pretty Woman. She has the presence to headline yet the generosity to support, and that balance is harder than it looks. I have always preferred performers who make everyone around them better, and she does exactly that. A scene simply lands harder when she is in it.
