Lee Don-ku

There is a quiet courage in choosing ice hockey in a country where it lives in the shadow of more glamorous sports. Lee Don-ku, a Seoul-born defenceman standing at 5 ft 10 in, played one of the least celebrated yet most essential roles on the ice: stopping the play so others could shine. What strikes me is the steadiness it takes to commit to a niche discipline through high school at Kyungbock and into professional ranks. He also has an Instagram account. I find myself rooting for athletes like him, who skate hard far from the spotlight.
