Lisa Moorish

Lisa Moorish strikes me as one of the unsung figures of nineties British pop, the kind who shaped a scene from the inside rather than the top of the charts. Going solo from 1989 and later fronting the indie band Kill City in the early 2000s, she carved out a career on grit instead of gloss. As both singer and songwriter she had the advantage of singing in her own voice, literal and creative. I have a soft spot for these quietly capable artists who reward listeners willing to dig past the obvious. Moorish is a fine example of exactly that kind of overlooked talent.
