Luca Zidane

Carrying the Zidane name could crush most young athletes, so what impresses me about Luca is that he refused to hide from it. Rather than chase his father's midfield legacy, he committed to goalkeeping, an entirely different craft, grinding through Spain's Segunda División from Real Madrid to Granada. His choice to represent Algeria despite being born in France reads as a thoughtful reckoning with his own roots rather than a shortcut. Still in his twenties, he has time to define himself on his own terms. I am quietly pulling for him to be known for what he builds, not whose son he is.
