My Take
Luke Evans is my favorite kind of actor: a stage-trained singer who treats villainy as a craft rather than a costume. Years in West End productions like Miss Saigon and Piaf gave him a precision most film-first actors never develop, and you can hear it whenever he speaks — every line lands on a beat. His Gaston in Beauty and the Beast could have been a cartoon; instead it became the most charismatic thing in the film. I keep hoping Hollywood lets him sing more often, because that baritone is genuinely lovely. A Welsh workhorse who makes scenery-chewing look elegant — that earns my respect.
