My Take
Makarand Deshpande is the kind of character actor I instinctively trust. Moving across Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema while staying rooted in theatre shows a rare versatility, and films like Satya and Swades prove he can shade a small role into something unforgettable. What draws me in is the restless creative appetite: actor, writer, director, playwright, all at once, with five films of his own behind the camera. He seems driven less by stardom than by an irrepressible need to make things. That hunger, more than any single performance, is what earns my respect.
