My Take

Marcel Scalese caught my interest because his story crosses so many borders. A Brazilian centre-back now plying his trade in Japan's J2 League with Ehime, he represents the kind of globe-trotting footballer I think gets overlooked. Playing in a foreign league means adapting to a new culture, language and style of defending, and doing it as a center-back, where one mistake gets punished, takes real composure. I always root for players who build careers far from the spotlight of Europe's giants. To me, his path is a reminder that football talent shows up everywhere and that the J. League quietly attracts capable imports worth watching.
