My Take
Mark Volman is the kind of musician I treasure precisely because he never needed the spotlight to shine. A founding Turtle, half of the gleefully irreverent Flo & Eddie, and brave enough to dive into Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, he had a restless, playful spirit that I admire enormously. His harmonies were the secret glue of so many records, and his sense of humor under the name Flo made the work joyful. He passed in 2025, but the warmth he poured into other people's songs feels permanent. To me he's proof that being a craftsman of the background is its own kind of stardom.
