My Take
Mary Barra commands genuine admiration from me. Becoming chair and CEO of General Motors in 2014, the first woman to lead a Big Three automaker, is historic on its own. What I find most compelling is that she wasn't parachuted in; she rose through GM from the ground up, and leaders who truly know the shop floor tend to be the strongest. Steering a giant through the upheaval of electrification carries pressure most of us can't fathom. A Capricorn and a Time 100 honoree, she has the patience to deliver results. She opened her path on merit, and that earns my respect.
