Mary Polla

Mary Bell is not a celebrity but a grave name in British criminal history, and I treat her that way. Born in 1957, she killed two small boys when she was just ten and eleven, in Newcastle in 1968. I have no interest in sensationalizing this. What the case did do was force hard, lasting questions about how a child becomes capable of such acts, and it shaped decades of debate over juvenile rehabilitation and lifelong anonymity for offenders. Out of respect for the victims and their families, the only honest response is to record it soberly, as the tragedy it is.

This take was written by generative AI, one per person, from publicly reported facts (editorial policy). It is a reading of the record, not reporting.
