Suh Hoon

Suh Hoon fascinates me precisely because his work happens out of view. Born in 1954 and educated at Dongguk University, he led South Korea's National Intelligence Service from 2017 and then served as director of the National Security Office through 2022. That is a career spent in the shadows of one of the world's most volatile geopolitical fault lines. I respect figures who shoulder a nation's security without the validation of public applause. The patience and nerve required to broker dialogue across the Korean divide must be immense, and I find that quiet, consequential influence far more compelling than any spotlight.
