My Take

Mayim Bialik fascinates me because she collapsed the distance between actor and character. Casting an actual UCLA-trained neuroscientist as Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory remains, in my view, one of television's happiest accidents; she understood every line she spoke. I also admire the arc itself: child star on Blossom, then a deliberate detour into academia, then a return that earned Critics' Choice wins and an Emmy as a game show host. Most child actors burn out; she leveled up. Her insistence on wearing her intelligence openly, in an industry that often punishes it, is what keeps my respect.
