My Take
MC Mong is a complicated one for me, and I'd rather not flatten him. He was one of Korea's most commercially successful hip hop artists, known for that comic streak and upbeat hooks, and he was everywhere on variety TV. Then came the heavy controversy over military service that nearly ended him. Whatever you conclude about that, the fact that he clawed back through music takes a stubbornness most people don't have. I'm not handing out a clean verdict. But an artist who keeps gripping the mic after being written off is, for better or worse, hard to forget.
