Neru Nagahama

Neru Nagahama is one of those idols who never quite played the idol game the way you'd expect, and I kind of love her for it. She came up in the Keyakizaka46 world but famously started out commuting from Nagasaki, this faraway-girl mystique baked in from day one, and it suited her perfectly. While everyone around her was bright and forward and turned-up to eleven, she had this hushed, bookish stillness, like she'd rather be writing in a notebook than working the camera, and somehow that made her impossible to look away from. She never shoves herself at you. She drifts into talent and acting work almost sideways, no big declaration, and you only notice later how much ground she's covered. That's the trick with her: she doesn't reach for you, but you end up rooting for her anyway. Quietly disarming, and a little bit sneaky about it.
