MC Ren

To me, MC Ren is the unsung steady hand of N.W.A. He never needed theatrics; his delivery was cold, measured, and quietly menacing in a way that aged better than louder peers. Signing to Ruthless while still in high school in Compton tells you everything about his nerve. What I respect most is that he built Villain Entertainment and went independent, refusing to be anyone's sideman. He's the kind of artist whose value you appreciate more on a second listen, when you realize how much weight his calm verses were actually carrying.
