Michael Flynn

Michael Flynn is one of those figures I find genuinely hard to sum up. The Bronze Star, the rise to lieutenant general, the reshaping of military intelligence, that is the record of a serious soldier from Middletown, Rhode Island. Yet resigning as national security adviser after just 22 days is a stark reminder of how thin the line between distinction and downfall can be. His turn from uniform to the political fray, and the constant controversy that follows, makes him a deeply polarizing figure. I refuse to either lionize or dismiss him cheaply; a man who divides opinion this sharply tends to function as a mirror of his era.
