My Take

I have always had a soft spot for goalkeepers, and Michael Langer fits the archetype perfectly. Born in 1985 in Bregenz, Vorarlberg, the Austrian former pro stood 194 centimeters tall, an imposing presence in the one position where you are only noticed when something goes wrong. Keepers do the most thankless work in football: they prevent rather than score, and respect comes slowly.
