My Take
Michael Weikath, or Weiki to fans, is one of the architects of power metal whether casual listeners realize it or not. As a founding guitarist of Helloween, he helped shape the melodic, speedy, almost triumphant sound that a whole genre later copied. I think his songwriting is underrated next to the band's bigger vocal personalities, but tracks rooted in his playing are the ones that defined the Keeper of the Seven Keys era for me. The data here oddly lists him as American, but he is German, born in Hamburg, and that German metal scene of the 1980s is exactly the soil this music grew from.
