My Take
Michele Riondino is exactly the sort of actor I gravitate toward: trained rigorously at the Silvio D'Amico academy, equally at home on television and in cinema, and serious enough about the craft to move behind the camera as a director and writer. His David di Donatello for Best Actor is no small thing in Italy. What I value most is his restraint; in a film like Ten Winters he can hold the frame in silence and still say everything. Coming from Taranto, a tough industrial city in the south, he carries a grounded, unshowy intensity that I find far more memorable than easy charisma.
