My Take
Mick Jagger interests me less as a rock star than as a phenomenon of sheer endurance. Plenty of singers have great voices; almost nobody has fronted the same band for over six decades while still sprinting across stadium stages past eighty. His songwriting partnership with Keith Richards is the spine of rock history, but I think Jagger's real genius is performance economics — knowing exactly how to spend a crowd's energy and his own. The knighthood in 2002 felt almost comic for rock's great provocateur, and that contradiction suits him. He made rebellion a lifelong profession, and somehow it never stopped looking like fun.
