Sayaka Akimoto

I've always had a soft spot for Sayaka Akimoto, because she was never the cutesy idol archetype, she was the backbone. A second-generation AKB48 member out of Matsudo, Chiba, she carried this older-sister, captain-of-the-team energy that made you feel like she'd actually look out for the younger members. What gets me is the boyish, steel-spined cool of her, that ramrod-straight posture and quiet toughness instead of the usual sugar. And she didn't coast after graduating, she went straight into acting and threw herself at stage and TV roles from scratch, which takes real guts. Then, just when you've filed her under "strong woman," she flashes this goofy, unguarded grin and the whole stern act collapses. That gap is honestly a little unfair, and I'm completely sold on it.
