Mile Sterjovski

I have a soft spot for players like Mile Sterjovski. Born in Wollongong with Macedonian roots, he was the versatile sort, mainly a right winger or second striker yet equally at home on the left or in central midfield. Players that adaptable rarely top the scoring charts, but they are the connective tissue of any side, and that is exactly the kind of footballer I value most. His move into coaching, leading A-League side Macarthur FC from 2023 to 2026, tells me his football intelligence outlasted his legs. The migrant-rooted story behind Australia's national team is one I genuinely love.
