My Take

Mohamed Kader, born Coubadja-Touré in Sokodé, is exactly the kind of footballer I find myself cheering for. Rising out of Togo, a small West African nation, to compete internationally is no small feat. At 174 cm he was never an imposing figure, yet he played as a forward, throwing himself into the toughest position on the pitch. Togo has produced flashier names, but it was grafters like Kader who built the foundation. The fact that he kept a personal website suggests a man who still carries his roots with pride. I have nothing but respect for a striker who ran carrying the hopes of a small country.
