Momo Asakura

Momo Asakura's path into voice acting is the kind that looks tidy in a summary and was almost certainly not tidy to live through. She passed an audition held by Music Ray'n, debuted as Yumi in My Little Monster, and then landed her first leading role as Ayumi Otosaka in Charlotte. Compress that into two sentences and it sounds like an escalator. In practice, the gap between a background character and a lead is where most voice acting careers quietly end. Japan's industry takes in a large intake every year and keeps a small fraction of them working. She also sings, which by her generation had stopped being a side hustle and become close to a requirement. Born in Fukuoka in 1994, standing 156 cm, she works in a profession where none of that is what the audience actually meets. What they meet is a voice, and hers has been recognizable enough to keep her in leading roles for years. In an industry this crowded, staying is the achievement.
