My Take

What strikes me about Moses Simon is the trajectory: from Jos, an inland Nigerian city, all the way to French top-flight football. At 168 cm he is hardly imposing, but that is exactly why I rate him. The most thrilling left wingers tend to be the low-slung, quick-footed dribblers rather than towering forwards, and Simon fits that mould perfectly. His longevity with the Nigeria national team speaks to a tenacity that statistics rarely capture. He may never top a scoring chart, but as the engine that drives a team forward he is the kind of player connoisseurs quietly cherish. A craftsman's winger.
