Mukesh Rishi

Mukesh Rishi fascinates me because he built a long career on being hated. Rather than chasing the hero role, he made himself indispensable as a villain across Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and more, an extraordinary linguistic reach for any actor. There is real craft in being convincingly menacing, in absorbing an audience's contempt night after night so the hero has something to overcome. From his 1993 breakthrough onward he has quietly become the spine of countless films. The supporting antagonist rarely gets the praise, but without performers like him the whole drama collapses, and I think that deserves recognition.
