Nastassja Kinski

Nastassja Kinski has always struck me as one of cinema's truly enigmatic presences. Born in West Berlin during the Allied occupation, she carried a mystique that the camera adored, and her 1978 breakthrough in Stay as You Are launched her worldwide, followed by a Golden Globe New Star award in 1981. What keeps my interest is the substance beneath the beauty: more than sixty films across Europe and America, plus voice work that proves her range. She lived a turbulent life yet kept returning to the screen, and I find that durability far more compelling than any single famous image of her.
