Shingo Nishiyama

Ice dance is the discipline I find quietly underrated, and Shingo Nishiyama is exactly why I keep coming back to it. There's no big jump to gasp at here, no triple-this or quad-that to count, just two people breathing in sync and melting into the music, and honestly that's harder to fake than any spin. Born in 2002 in Tokyo, he's still young, but there's a composure in how he moves and supports his partner that you usually only see in skaters twice his age. At 173cm he's got that long, clean line that makes the lifts look effortless even though I know they're brutal. I love watching the moment the music starts and his whole face shifts into focus. I'm rooting for this kid to keep climbing.
