My Take
Neera Tanden interests me as a study in influence that operates behind the scenes. Rising from a Massachusetts upbringing through UCLA to direct the U.S. Domestic Policy Council is no small feat, and steering a major think tank means shaping the ideas that eventually become policy. I respect people who choose the unglamorous machinery of governance over the spotlight; that is where the real, slow work of running a country happens. Her career reads to me as proof that intellect and persistence can carry someone from the margins to the center of national decision-making.
