My Take

Nicolas Ivanoff competes in arguably the most nerve-shredding sport I can think of, threading an aircraft through pylons at the Red Bull Air Race wearing number seven. The nickname, The Quick Corsican, is pure theatre, and I love that a man from Ajaccio, Napoleon's island, found his battlefield in the sky. What earns my respect is the discipline beneath the spectacle. He's also a flying instructor, which tells me this is precision and cold nerve, not mere daredevilry. Athletes who turn fear into craft fascinate me, and Ivanoff strikes me as exactly that rare blend of audacity and control.
