Norodom Sihamoni

Norodom Sihamoni is one of the most unusual monarchs alive, and that is exactly why he interests me. Before the crown he was a classical ballet teacher and cultural ambassador trained in Czechoslovakia, a man whose life was art before duty. He never married and lives modestly, channeling himself into culture and quiet diplomacy rather than spectacle. I admire rulers shaped by discipline of the body and the stage; you sense it in his bearing. The decorations are impressive, but what stays with me is a king who chose to be an artist first.
