Oliver Tree

Oliver Tree built an entire career on weaponized ugliness, and I find that genuinely brilliant. The deliberately awful haircut, the Guinness record for the largest kick scooter, the album literally titled Ugly Is Beautiful, it was all a coherent satire of internet-age image culture. Behind the trolling sat a real songwriter, as the gold and platinum singles that followed his 2017 viral breakout prove. What I admire most is that he never broke character; the bit was the art. His death in 2026 cut short one of pop's most committed conceptual performers, and I think we lost more than people realize.
