My Take
Omar Epps announced himself by debuting opposite Tupac Shakur in Juice, which is about as serious an entrance as an actor can make. A Brooklyn kid trained at the legendary LaGuardia high school, he is the real deal, and his range across acting, singing and rapping proves it. What I love is how he underplays. Rather than chewing scenery, he sinks quietly into a role and lets presence do the work, whether in medical dramas or crime stories. The screen tightens the moment he appears. Understated, dependable actors like him deserve far more credit than they usually get.
