Pedro Martinez

Honestly, Pedro Martinez might be the most purely dominant pitcher I've ever watched. This guy grew up in a palm-wood house with a dirt floor outside Santo Domingo and, at barely 180 cm, made the best hitters in baseball look completely overmatched — not through sheer size but through a devastating changeup, pinpoint command, and a competitive fire that was almost scary to watch from the stands. The late-1990s and early 2000s run he put together, especially those years in Boston, was genuinely historic: a stretch of ERA and strikeout numbers that statisticians still pull out to settle arguments. Three Cy Young Awards, a Baseball Hall of Fame induction in 2015, and a World Series ring in 2004 — the resume speaks for itself, but the highlight reels really don't do justice to how utterly unfair he was to face on any given night.
