My Take

Rachel Matthews has a range that makes me grin. She trained seriously at NYU's Tisch School, yet broke through in the wicked, playful horror of Happy Death Day and its sequel, where her sly, faintly venomous presence stuck with audiences. With stage work behind her, she has the live-performance foundation to handle both comedy and fear in the flesh, and that border between funny and frightening is actually the hardest acting territory to own. Born in 1993, she belongs to a generation still expanding into its prime roles. I am genuinely curious to see how far she pushes; I suspect she has serious upside.
