My Take
For me, Peter Cullen is less a voice actor than a custodian of a generation's idea of heroism. The fact that he originated Optimus Prime in the 1980s and was invited back in 2007 for the live-action era says everything: the voice itself became irreplaceable. What I admire is the restraint in his delivery, a low, paternal authority that never shouts to command respect. A Montreal-born performer turning a children's cartoon line into a cultural touchstone is no small feat. Decades on, that calm, reassuring gravity still lands for me. He is craft made permanent.
