Peter Wingfield

Peter Wingfield has one of my favorite improbable backstories. A Cardiff-born actor who trained at Brasenose College, Oxford, and studied medicine before turning to acting, later returning to medicine as an anesthesiologist, he's best known as Methos on Highlander and roles in Holby City and Sanctuary. Moving between medicine and performance takes real nerve, and that intellect clearly informs his on-screen presence. I'm always partial to people who abandon a safe, prestigious path for the thing they actually love. Wingfield's choices feel principled and self-aware, which makes him far more compelling than a typical genre-TV regular.
